How to Mix + Match Swimsuits

by 97495429 May 14, 2014

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, I've got swimwear on my mind. If you're like me, you probably gravitate toward a classic solid black or navy suit thinking "Oh, this will go with everything," (which of course is true), but this year I've decided to mix it up a bit. Mixing and matching bikinis is a great way to expand your swimsuit wardrobe without having to splurge on a bunch of new pieces at once.  And since most stores sell swimwear separately to accommodate different body types, it's super easy to create your own set of suits from different patterns, cuts, and colors (and high/low price points!), even incorporating pieces you already own.

Rules of thumb when mixing it up

Your bikini doesn't have to come as a set to be stylish!  A few tips for foolproof mixing and matching...

Pull an accent color from the top or bottom to use in the coordinating piece, or use neutrals/colors that are complementary (coral and green, black and white, blue and green, etc.)  to make sure the suit doesn't clash  •  Keep pattern scale in mind. Instead of choosing two large scale patterns, opt for one large and one small, this way they coordinate rather than compete  • Stripes and florals almost always look great together (as do florals and gingham)  •  You can't go wrong with a color blocked suit  •  When in doubt, mix a solid piece with a patterned piece for a playful, but pulled together look  •  Mix in tops and bottoms you already own!

The complimentary floral and fun scallops + print options are my favorite! I always stick to a set for the pool or beach (and this year I’ve gone one-piece) but I love the idea of mixing and matching cool styles to create something totally unique.

This is such a great post idea! I love the idea of mixing and matching bikinis and I do it often! Esp when I’m craving a top or bottom that’s expensive, it’s nice to pair it with another piece that’s cheap! Loving the florals and stripes!
