I'm a minimalist when it comes to makeup. The shorter my morning routine, the better (some days it's simply BB cream + mascara). My routine doesn't change drastically throughout the year, but during the summer months I like to keep it extra simple. To me, there's nothing better glowing skin and and barely there makeup for summer days, amped up with a bold lip or smoky eye for night. And because I personally love reading other bloggers' tried and true recommendations, here's what's currently in my makeup bag ...[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="600.0"] Image via designlovefest[/caption]
CVS Makeup wipes ($6) are refreshing and amazing for removing makeup, etc. from the day. I usually use one of these pre-shower/cleanser.
I use Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel in Sensitive ($39) 1-2 times per week depending on how dull or oily my skin is. It's great for making your skin glowy and smooth. About once a week, I use Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask ($17). It's great for removing impurities and making skin feel smooth, especially when it randomly breaks out, but it can be very drying so I use it sparingly. I usually leave both on after showering for 10-15 minutes, or until they dry.
Hello, mid-twenties and the necessity for a skincare regimen (am I right?). At night after I hop out of the shower, I use Estée Lauder's amazing Advanced Night Repair serum (a bottle lasts for a while)($62), and usually follow up with their Advanced Time Zone Night Creme ($74). I ended up trying these because I received free samples about a year ago, and ended up loving them. They are on the pricier side, but I definitely notice the difference. Even after a day on the beach or running around the city my skin feels hydrated and moisturized without being greasy or breaking out. Other moisturizers I've used and love: Kiehl's Super Multi-Corrective Cream ($62), Sephora Instant Moisturizer ($22).
While I know I definitely don't drink as much as I should, I notice a difference in my skin (and entire body) when I don't drink enough water. Especially in the summer. Plus, it costs next to nothing so no excuses.
Dr. Jart+ Premium BB cream ($39) has quickly become my favorite thing in my makeup bag (originally sampled via Birchbox). I'm not a full foundation kind of girl, and I love that I can control the amount of coverage, but that it still smooths out and covers imperfections. The shade (they only have one) adjusts to your skin color, lasts all day, has SPF 45, moisturizes, and gives you a bright, dewy complexion. If you add one thing to your makeup bag, let it be this.
To cover any blemishes and brighten dark circles, I use Lancôme Maquicomplete cream in Porcelaine ($31). The coverage is great without being too heavy. Concealer can be tricky, but making sure that the undertones of the makeup match your skin tone is key to finding the right one.
If there's one thing I never leave the house without it's mascara. It makes me feel instantly put together, and I'm just as happy using Maybelline as I am Benefit. Right now I'm loving Estée Lauder's Sumptuous Lash mascara ($26).
During the day if I wear lip color, I usually go for a pink or peach gloss like NARS Turkish Delight ($24), but if I'm in the mood for a pop of color, I'll wear one of the NARS matte lip pencils ($25) (and I've been swearing by them for years).
The final touch that makes a huge difference for me is dabbing a little luminizer under my eyes/above my cheekbones, on the bridge of my nose, and lower forehead, and applying bronzer below my cheekbones and on my upper forehead (a mini contouring session). I like Benefit Girl Meets Pearl (one tube lasts for a while)($30) and for bronzer Benefit Hoola Hoola Bronzer ($28) or Physician's Formula Multi-Color Bronzer ($11).
